About This Course

In this course, a basic introduction to protein structure will be given followed by an introduction to proteomics. The typical proteomics workflow will be thoroughly explained followed by the wide variety of applications of proteomics. The course will also provide a deep insight into mass spectrometry, its instrumental setup, and how the different parts of the instrument work, in addition to the associated protein separation technologies. Finally, data analysis methods and considerations will be explained.

Proteomics, in addition to other ‘omics’ technologies, has contributed to the advancement of all biological sciences. If you have a life science or natural or computer sciences background, and want to learn about protein sciences, from extraction to separation and analysis, then this course is for you. This course is particularly useful for anyone interested in analytics and joining the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, where all the ‘omics’ techniques are highly valued.

Meet Your Instructor

Dr. Sherif Idriss

Sherif holds a M.Sc. in Pharmacology from the University of Oxford UK and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Lübeck, Germany. During his Ph.D., he studied the role of astrocytes in energy homeostasis and obesity and novel methods of primary astrocyte culture. His work has been published in journals such as Frontiers and Neuropsychopharmacology. After his Ph.D., he moved to the University of Bern, Switzerland for postdoctoral studies on new innovative therapies in multiple sclerosis.
