For the past 30 years, tissue engineering has gone through a major revolution, aiming at the regeneration of functionalised tissue for medical application. All aspects of Tissue Engineering are covered within this course of which include cell biology, biomaterial scaffolds and cell bioreactors. Besides that, students will gain an insight into the current advancement in Tissue Engineering.
The course would be an excellent source for students who are interested in the fundamental of tissue engineering. This interdisciplinary course would attract students from physical sciences, engineering and life sciences backgrounds. It can help to prepare students to pursue a career in research, technical and management in related industries such as biotechnology and regenerative medicine sectors.
Dr. Illida Nawi
Illida has always been passionate about sharing her knowledge and mentoring students with their research projects. She obtained her degree in Biomedical Engineering (concentration in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering) from Case Western Reserve University, USA. After graduating, she pursued her studies in the design and validation of a novel-designed mechanical cell bioreactor and later earned MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. This is also where she acquired four years of teaching experience. Besides teaching, Illida also gained her experience in designing laboratory modules, supervising and training undergraduate and postgraduate students in research technical skills.
