About This Course

In this course, a basic introduction to the cell biology of the brain including neurons and glial cells will be given. We will also explore the electrical properties of neurons and how they communicate. Basic and advanced techniques of neuroscience for studying the brain cells in humans will be explained. This course will also look at different brain regions of evolutionarily basic and complex structures and functions in their healthy and diseased states.

Meet Your Instructor

Dr. Sherif Idriss

Sherif holds a M.Sc. in Pharmacology from the University of Oxford UK and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Lübeck, Germany. During his Ph.D., he studied the role of astrocytes in energy homeostasis and obesity and novel methods of primary astrocyte culture. His work has been published in journals such as Frontiers and Neuropsychopharmacology. After his Ph.D., he moved to the University of Bern, Switzerland for postdoctoral studies on new innovative therapies in multiple sclerosis.
