Molecular Ageing
The study of molecular ageing is a cutting-edge discipline, providing a novel lens through which to understand and treat age-related decline. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the biological drivers of ageing, from evolutionary theories to the molecular hallmarks that define the biological clock. Participants will explore the mechanisms of DNA repair, the impact of oxidative stress, and emerging therapeutic frontiers, including senolytics and rejuvenation technologies moving from the laboratory into clinical consideration.

Who Is This Course For
This course is designed for individuals with a life sciences or medical background interested in the rapidly evolving field of longevity science. Whether you are interested in pursuing postgraduate research in molecular biology or wish to gain a competitive edge before applying for a position in the growing longevity biotech industry, this is the right place to start.
What you'll learn
- Understand the core biology of ageing and the primary evolutionary theories such as antagonistic pleiotropy.
- Learn the molecular “Hallmarks of Ageing,” including cellular senescence, loss of proteostasis, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
- Gain insight into nutrient-sensing pathways (mTOR, AMPK) and how interventions such as caloric restriction influence lifespan.
- Understand the mechanisms of DNA damage and repair, and how they relate to accelerated ageing syndromes such as Werner syndrome.
- Learn about the latest therapeutic frontiers, including senolytics, partial rejuvenation, and reprogramming.

Meet Your Instructor
Dr. Sherif Idriss
Sherif Idriss holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Lübeck, Germany, and an M.Sc. in Pharmacology from the University of Oxford, UK. During his doctoral research, he investigated the role of astrocytes in energy homeostasis and obesity, and developed novel methods for primary astrocyte culture. His work has been published in leading scientific journals, including Frontiers and Neuropsychopharmacology. Following his Ph.D., Sherif conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bern, Switzerland, focusing on innovative therapeutic approaches for multiple sclerosis. His expertise spans neuroscience, pharmacology, and longevity biotechnology, and he has served as both a research scientist and CEO of multiple companies developing therapeutics for age-related conditions.
