About This Course

This is an entry-level course in computational biology. It covers algorithms and machine learning methods used to analyse biological data, as well as recent developments in the field and currently available biological datasets. The course places particular emphasis on genomics and genome evolution. You will be introduced to bioinformatic algorithms for the analysis of genomic datasets.

Who Is This Course For

This course is designed for individuals with an undergraduate or postgraduate level of education. It is preferable that participants have a basic background in a programming language such as Python, R and/or Bash.

  • Genome sequence analysis, hidden Markov models (HMMs), gene-finding algorithms, comparative genomics approaches, RNA sequence analysis, and genome/sequence alignment algorithms.
  • Clustering analysis, motif finding, Bayesian networks, small RNAs, microRNAs, and regulatory networks.
  • Phylogenomics, comparative population genomics, GWAS, and ancestral genomics.
  • Basic programming skills, including command line usage and building pipelines.
