About This Course

Pharmacology is present everywhere from the medicine that patients can take such as painkillers or antibiotics to the caffeine drinks available to anyone. The study of pharmacology is fundamental in the process of drug discovery. Pharmacology is not only essential to find new treatments on existing diseases but also on improving effectiveness and reducing the unwanted side effects of new and existing drugs. In this course you will understand the principles of pharmacology, the definition of drug and the difference between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. You will also learn about basic biology such as receptor-ligand interactions and the different receptors present in the human body. One module will focus on the basics of immune responses, which is an important component in the study of pharmacology. The last module of this course is entirely dedicated to the different drugs currently available to treat bacterial, viral and fungal infections as well as the drugs available to alleviate pain sensation. This course covers general principles of pharmacology through a variety of materials such as video lectures, whiteboard videos and 2D videos created by professionals with years of biology experience and passionate about life science. With a quiz present at the end of each module, you can easily assess your knowledge of pharmacology before going to the next module. The Pharmacology programme is an intermediate programme easily accessible to anyone who has basic knowledge of life sciences.

Who Is This Course For

This course is for anyone with an interest in Pharmacology. This course is intermediate and basic knowledge about life sciences (such as cell structure) will make this course accessible. This course doesn’t require any knowledge in Pharmacology and gives a good overview of the field at an intermediate level similar to academic Pharmacology lectures.
