Build skills and learn without limits | Anytime, anywhere and on any device

This online course introduces the principles of bioinformatics and describes how it can be further utilized to answer biological questions.

Starts 12th August 2022

About This Course

The past decades have been exciting ones in bioinformatics. A plethora of genomes have been sequenced and analysed for regions that explain biological phenomenon. Analyses include transcriptome sequencing that facilitated wide gene expression profiling, synteny analysis, and linking sequenced genomes with phenotypes. In this online course we introduce the core bioinformatic competencies and resources, such as genome sequencing, gene annotation, classification by ontology, genome synteny, genome evolution, genome architecture, transcriptome analysis by RNAseq, proteomics, and phylogenomics. Subsequently, we introduce the use of programming languages such as python, R, and Bash to aid the analysis of large genomics data.

Who Is This Course For

This course is useful to any modern molecular biologists aiming to get familiarized with the recent advances in sequencing technologies. Thus, it is required to have basic knowledge on molecular structure, molecular biology and genetics. Also, previous knowledge on bioinformatics is helpful and recommended. This class certification will give an advantage to anyone seeking to land competitive entry-level bioinformatics jobs or looking to enhance their education in advanced degree bioinformatics program.

What you'll learn

  • Genome sequencing technologies and gene annotation
  • Gain familiarity with the synteny and evolution of genomes
  • Explore the genome structures of organisms from various kingdoms
  • Assessment of genomic diversity and linking between genomic diversity and phenotypes
  • Differential gene expression analysis and gene regulation
  • Phylogenomic and interpreting phylogenetic trees
  • Basic programming skills such as command-line usage and building pipelines
  • Running existing data analysis tools using the command line
